Robyn O’Brien and rebuilding our food system

Robyn O Brien is the modern day “Erin Brockovich” of FOOD. She wrote a book in May of 2010 entitled the UNhealthy truth. She is able to communicate the problems with big food, chemical food, franken-food from both her investment research background and from the emotional motherhood side like no other speaker I have heard. You can listen to her Ted talk here.

The full meal deal is in this talk … as a part of a larger Marianne Williamson event.

I have been following healthy food for almost 20 years now. Her story and the way she gets it across is one of the most powerful I have heard. I feel like I am late to the game to JUST NOW find her book and presentations.

I urge you to listen to her story and explanation before you go out to work today. It will change your focus on what is important to your family, your customers and your fellow Americans!!!

Cows topping off "Salad Bar" (Joel Salatin term) with vinergar and ... Sea Salt???

I am trying something new these days. About a month Rock Thompson of Buffalo SD told me of an experiment he was running on his ranch in the interest of trying to get his cows to consume 4-5 ounces of SEA SALT per head per day. A mix of 50# of sea salt with 5-6 gallons of ACV.

This solves three problems all at once.

1) A mammal in an alkaline body PH is lee likely to get disease than that same animal with an acid body PH reading. Both Sea Salt and ACV are Alkaline forming in the body. A natural disease resistance.

2) According to Carey Reams, when we are in an acid state it is more difficult to get the minerals out of what we are eating and even harder to store them in our body. SEA Salt is all about the minerals.

3) The ACV (especially that which originates at Golden Valley Vinegar in Fruitland Idaho) helps animals digest standing dry forage (summer or winter) and stored dry hay when winter feeding.

Below is a short video of that mix when first introduced to a set of cows in Nebraska. More to be posted here in the near future on this experiment. Looks like a big winner so far.

I will take an order of Clean Mineral-Rich food. Hold the toxins please!

I read so may things it is hard to know what to believe and what not to believe. Confirmation bias or what does my gut tell me about this information or does it make common sense? These all play a part in what is the take home message for me. What would Nature do if left alone? That is the final word for me.

I ran across an article entitled It wasn’t the cows after all That checks all of the boxes for me.

The author’s words in the final paragraph really did it for me…

We are now in a scenario where advocates have been pushing chicken and veganism to save the world, and have just learned that all the “data” behind this push is wrong. All of the environmental footprint studies need a re-do. Once cattle—raised on grass without synthetic fertilizer—are accurately assessed, I predict we will be left with chicken and some plant products as top line polluters. As we always say, it’s complicated. But we have to get it right.”

Think about it. Buffalo roaming the great plains helped CREATE all of that good rich top soil. WE have done a pretty good job of transferring quite a bit of it to the mouth of the Mississippi with modern farming practices.

SQUIRREL

“They keep telling us how bad the measles are. I recently read an article where it was found that is you went through the measles you are less likely to get cancer later on in life. Why are the measles a bigger problem than they used to be. In my opinion, modern, western food has so few minerals and so many more toxins than it ever had … our own immune function can’t cope even with small things like the measles.
